Fear Grips commuters over Lagos/Ibadan Express way.

September 01,2019

FG has announced that it would begin partial shutdown of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Monday, September 2

- The date for the rehabilitation of the road was canceled last month to ease people's agony during last Sallah festival and RCCG's annual convention

- RSS has also advised those plying the road to take alternative routes to their destinations

The federal government has announced that a portion of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway would be partially shutdown starting from Monday, September 2, for the rehabilitation work.

Guardian reports that the road would be shut-down partially for four months to enable the contractor, Julius Berger Plc, commence rehabilitation work on a section of the major carriageway.

It was gathered that the closure of the Lagos section of the 127.6 km road, previously scheduled for August 3, 2019, was put off as it clashed with Eid el Kabir and the annual convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

The federal controller of works, Lagos state, Adedamola Kuti, said the postponement was meant to show sensitivity to Nigerians and to make provision for an effective traffic management.

In a tweet on Sunday, September 1, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Lagos state chapter, gave traffic advice to Nigerians, especially those plying the road.

According to the security agency, the reconstruction work of Berger-Kara end of Lagos Ibadan expressway would commence on Monday, September 2 and would end on October 31.

The director of highways, southwest federal ministry of works, Funso Adebiyi, said on Thursday, August 29, that the target was to complete that critical portion of the road before Christmas when more people would be travelling.

He said by December 15, the road would be opened substantially for the Yuletide season to avoid traffic jam.

He assured that the reconstruction would not suffer any financial hiccup as funds for the project was already domiciled with the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Agency (NSIA), adding that approval for release of such funds, rests with the president.

It was reported that the federal controller of works in Lagos state, Adedamola Kuti, made the announcement in Lagos on Friday, August 2.
