‘CIPSM reaffirms commitment to professionalism, best global practice’

The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria (CIPSM), has reiterated commitment to training individuals across the country as procurement and supply chain management professionals.

Speaking at a press roundtable organised to announce its annual conference and awards night in Lagos, the Institute registrar, Mohammed Aliyu, noted that the local content policy was supported by the Presidential Executive Order 02, which emphasises professionalism and the domestication of professional certificates received from foreign professional bodies with relevant professional institutions in Nigeria before such is used to practice.

Aliyu commended the directive to government’s ministries, department and agencies to ensure that certain consultancy and professional advisory assignments must have Nigerian consultants in the lead of such firms with a view to promote knowledge development and transfer of know-how among the group.

He said: “CIPSM is positioned to contribute positively and we are worried by the misconception being peddled by mischief-makers who viewed and defined procurement through the prism of their respective professional undertaking. This fallacy has created a big gulf that is yet to be overcome by professionals in the field of procurement and supply chain management.”

He noted that part of the challenges identified in the implementation of the policy was the scope of application of the Law in a narrow sense.

Aliyu advised that the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) should ensure that various professionals necessary for the attainment of the objectives of the Act are given the required attention that they deserve with a view to moving the policy forward which would invariably bring out the best through an interplay of professional knowledge and expertise.

“As the only professional institution in the field of procurement and supply chain management practice, CIPSM is adequately prepared to train, certify by examination, carry out research, maintain and ensure the best practice and standards. These are important to for competency, capacity/capability demonstrated through professional teaching and certification, as well as ensure that qualified members have the knowledge, boldness and keep the ethical codes of the professional practice anchored on international best practice.”

Tribunal Upholds Elrufai's election as Kaduna Governor

September 09,2019 Kaduna Governorship Election Petition Tribunal Monday upheld the election of the State’s governor Nasir El-Rufai. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Alhaji Isah Ashiru filed an application seeking a recount of the votes cast during the March 9 election in the state. El-Rufai, a candidate of the All Progressives Congress, polled total votes of 1,045,427 to defeat Ashiru who garnered 814,168 votes. The petitioners, however, claimed that the poll was characterised by massive rigging, ballot stuffing, and violence in some parts of the state.
