Bukola Saraki - who as Senate President is the third most senior politician in the country  On Tuesday, 14 senators left APC. While 12 joined the PDP, two others joined the African Democratic Congress Senators that joined the PDP are: Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (Kano); Rafiu Ibrahim (Kwara); Shaba Lafiagi (Kwara); Bayero Nafada (Gombe); Ubale Shittu (Jigawa); Dino Melaye (Kogi); Abdullahi Danbaba (Sokoto); Isa Hamma Misau (Bauchi); Suleiman Nazif (Bauchi); Suleiman Hunkuyi (Kaduna); Barnabas Gemade (Benue) and Lanre Tejuoso (Ogun). Pfandergloria: July 26/2018 The three day closure of the Third Mainland Bridge for investigative maintenance test earlier slated to begin on July 27, 2018, has been shifted to August 24, Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has said. The shutdown, earlier scheduled to last from July 27 to July 30 will now last from August 24 to August 26, 2018. The Speaker of the House of Representatives made the announcement at the end of plenary on Tuesday. This comes after about 37 members defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Action Democratic Congress (ADC). Some of the members who dumped the APC include: Sani Rano, Barry Mpigi, Ali Madaki, Dickson Tackighir, Hassan Saleh, Danburam Nuhu, Mark Gbilah, Razak Atunwa, Ahmed Garba Bichi, Abdulsamad Dasuk and Zakari Mohammed. Supporters of the lawmaker gathered in their numbers as they burnt brooms to show solidarity with the senator. At the senate floor today, the president of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, read a letter from 13 members of the All Progressives’ senators declaring their defection from APC to PDP. Pfandergloria; July 25/2018 Some senators on Tuesday visited Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, to solidarise with him on his travails with security agencies. Senators Ben Murray Bruce, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Suleiman Adokwe, Philip Aduda, Dino Melaye were among the over 40 senators who visited Mr Ekweremadu. The senators proceeded to the residence of their colleague immediately after Tuesday’s plenary. By the time of the visit, the siege on Mr Ekweremadu’s home had been lifted with normalcy returning to the area. Some protesters loyal to Mr Ekweremadu were seen carrying placards at the entrance of the building. PREMIUM TIMES earlier reported the security siege on Mr Ekweremadu’s house. Security operatives from the police and the SSS mounted the siege. Evidence later emerged that he had been summoned to appear before the anti-graft agency, EFCC, today.

Pfandergloria; July 24/2018 The Senate has protested against the siege laid to the ‎Abuja residence of Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and men of the Nigeria Police. Raiding a point of order, Senator Chukwuka Utazi, urged the Senate to demand that the security operatives were withdrawn and that the lawmakers should proceed ‎on their annual eight-week recess which was scheduled to start on Thursday. The prayers were unanimously granted. Lawmakers who spoke on the motion also criticised the APC-led government and security agencies for their alleged clampdown on perceived opponents. Senator Barnabas Gemade, however, prayed that the lawmakers first adjourn for 30 minutes to allow them to reconvene and adopt the Votes and Proceedings of the Tuesday plenary. It was unanimously granted. The plenary has now been adjourned for 30 minutes.

Paul Maina, who was also known as Man Kwenjo, died on Saturday morning after suffering a disease which has not been established. The talented entertainer came into the limelight after a video clip emerged online where he was recorded mixing popular Kikuyu gospel songs with his voice. The comical footage went viral prompting Nakumatt Supermarket, which has since gone under, to contract him to entertain crowds during road shows it carried out in the past in various parts of the country.
