Argentina legend and goalkeeper Hugo Gatti nicknamed ‘The Madman’ during his playing days has blasted Lionel Messi for his decision for playing against Spain.

The former Albiceleste goalkeeper was of the opinion that Cristiano Ronaldo would never ignore his country because of a niggling or minor injury like Messi did on Tuesday against Spain.

The Barcelona forward did not play for Argentina in the friendly match against Italy in England and Spain at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid due to a minor muscle injury.

Argentina won the Italy 2-0 with the Barcelona talisman not involved in the game but his absence was evident against Spain in the 6-1 humiliating defeat.

Messi walked away from the stand with 10 minutes left in the clash.

The 30-year-old forward will now focus on helping Barcelona to defeat Sevilla and the Champions League game against AS Roma in the quarter-final of the Champions League.

But Gatti has suggested Messi could have in fact played against Spain and went on to claim his Real Madrid rival Ronaldo would have played.

“Messi had to have played,”

“People wanted to see you.

“Cristiano would have done it,” Gatti said on El Chiringutio TV.

Messi is having a good season with Barcelona, having helped the team to in front of three major competitions, the Copa Del Rey, La Liga and the Champions League.

The Argentine forward has scored 35 goals in all competitions.
