Political Parties Get Training On Funding, Electoral Practices Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu has called on political parties in Nigeria, to avoid campaigns with hate speeches, as they approach the 2019 general elections. This advice was giving at a one day training for the leadership of the registered 68 political parties in Nigeria, put together by the national institute for policy and strategic studies, Kuru, Jos in Abuja. Participants at the training deliberated on issues mitigating against political parties in Nigeria. Leaders from the 68 INEC registered political parties in Nigeria attended the training. They discussed issues that will drive an egalitarian political system, and fashion out ways and new methods to achieving democratic stability in Nigeria. Persons from the academia, legislature and electoral umpire all took turns to present speeches on rebuilding political parties in Nigeria. Among many issues discussed were political party funding, institutionalization of party structures, conduct of electoral practices, elections and internal party democracy. The INEC chairman on his part, commended the initiative, but called on political party leadership to devise new and healthy ways to campaign ahead of the 2019 general elections.
