ASUU to set panel of inquiry about LASU crisis  December 21, 2017. The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Lagos zone, has demanded that a panel of inquiry be set up to investigate the crisis at Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos. the crisis reportedly heightened after the sacking of seven lecturers of the institution. Addressing journalists on Wednesday at the ASUU office at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, the Lagos Zonal Coordinator, Prof.olusiji Sowande, also called the Kogi State Government to reverse the sacking of over 150 lecturers of the Kogi State University, Ayingba. Sowande said the zone was mandated by the National Body of the Union at LASU and KSU and give recommendations. the zonal coordinator was run by other ASUU executives, Prof. Deji Agboola of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye; Dr. John Fayemi of the Tai Solar University of Education, Ijagun; and Dr. Dele Ashiru of the University of Lagos. So, Dr. present. akinloye Oyewumi of Lagos State University, Ojo, and Dr. Adebayo Oni of FUNAAB, Abeokuta. These are the members of the union in LASU who were hounded by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lanre Fagbohun, for the constitution of a functional budget monitoring committee. He cited the dismissal of the LASU Chairman of the Union. Isaac Oyewumi, and the Vice-Chairman, Dr. Adebowale Adeyemi-Suenu, by the authorities of the institution as examples of the VC's high-handedness. 1. 3bn NEED's Assessment Revitalization Fund released to the institution in 2013. ,Thus, all ASUU members were punished by the management of LASU for the implementation of the Earned Academic Allowances components of the ASUU-FGN 2009 Agreement. the union thus expressed its displeasure over the recent increment of acceptance fee from 10,000 to 20,000 by the institution. "ASUU, Lagos Zone, joins the Education Right Campaign, calling for an independent panel on inquiry on the unfolding crisis in LASU with a view to resolving it. "We call on the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, in charge of the function of a lawyer, is working in tandem with the vice-chancellor of LASU. "Our union should not be responsible for any eventual crisis in LASU," he said. Sowande added, "The real motive of the LASU management for hounding our members is to silence them and we are going to resist it. "We want an independent panel of inquiry to be set up by the visitor, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode. If this is not done, the problem will keep recurring. "A case in point is that of the treasurer of the LASU branch, dr. oluwakemi Aboderin -Sonibare, who was queried for that promotion. " On the Kogi varsity crisis, Sowande condemned the sacking of 150 lecturers of the university, describing it as "impunity and high-handedness by the state governor, Yahaya Bello. " similarly, the Benin zone of ASUU has called for the reinstatement of members sacked by the Kogi and Lagos state governments. It described the proscription of ASUU at the Kogi State University by Bello as laughable, claiming that the governor painted the power to disband the union. no less than 120 lecturers of the University were reportedly relieved of their appointments for failing to return to work during an unpaid salary arrears. the Monetary Coordinator of the Union, Anthony Monye -Emina, told journalists at a press briefing on Wednesday that the governor's action was not just against God but also an infringement on the rights to lawful assembly and freedom of association
